'This must be our breakthrough election'5.37.00pm GMT Thu 26th Nov 2009
Yorkshire Lib Dem MP, Greg Mulholland issued a clarion call to the delegates at the recent Regional Conference. "We must focus all our efforts on getting as many Liberal Democrat MPs elected as we possibly can in the coming General Election. We must make it our breakthrough election," said Greg. "We must also recognise the real probability of a double election, with the General being called at the same time as next year's locals. We must be more ruthless in our targeting & we must hammer home our message of 'change'. We must make it clear that what we offer is a genuine change of direction for the country, not the false change of the Tories, which is all style and no substance." "Despite their lead in the polls, the Tories are not having it all their own way. Even Kelvin Mackenzie, the editor of the Sun is not looking forward to Cameron & Osborne running the country. Believe me there is everything to play for," said Greg.
Also reporting to the conference on the House of Lords, Lord David Shutt said, "The shine has gone off the Tories. We are working very hard and Baroness Harris has a new role as the Deputy Speaker the House. Unfortunately the expenses issue has affected everyone very badly, even those guilty of nothing. The Kelly Report, although rather strange in parts, will bring out many more revelations from both the Commons & the Lords."
