Simon Hughes, Lib Dem President is welcomed at Brough Station

Simon was very warmly greeted by H & H PPC David Nolan and Lib Dem activists as he stepped off the train at Brough Station on the morning of Sunday 29th of June. Simon was accompanied by Cambridge Cllr Dr Julie Smith. They had both travelled down from Newcastle and were stopping off on their way back to London & Cambridge. In the welcoming party was Anita Kay who was largely responsible for the improvements to the Brough Station Car Park during her time as an East Riding councillor.

Also in the welcoming party were H & H Chair Alan Williams and local activist Alan Luckcraft.

Anita took the lead in showing Simon around Brough before he was taken to Kirk Ella to visit the Police Station there. After some discussion everyone went to a buffet lunch at David's home in North Ferriby.

At the reception Simon met East Riding Cllrs MaryRose Hardy, Mary Kingston and Katrin McClure who told him how much the floods of June 2007 had deeply affected the lives of so many people in Anlaby & Cottingham. Simon also had an opportunity to speak to Diana Wallis, who as well being an MEP and Vice President of the European Parliament, is also President of H & H Liberal Democrats.
