Nick Clegg warmly welcomed by Haltemprice & Howden Lib Dems as their new leader11.14.00am GMT Thu 20th Dec 2007
LIBERAL Democrats in Haltemprice & Howden (H & H) have warmly welcomed the election of Nick Clegg as the new leader of the Party. The result of the vote by Liberal Democrat party members was announced on Tuesday 18th of December. In a message sent to members in H & H shortly after the vote was declared, David Nolan their Parliamentary Spokesperson said, " NIck Clegg will be a great leader of the Liberal Democrats and I am delighted he has won what turned out to be a close run thing." "Unlike the Labour Party, who gave Gordon Brown a coronation (and are already regretting it) we have had a vibrant contest. The leadership contenders have travelled the country, setting out their ideas and listening to party members. We showed once again how we are the most open and genuinely democratic party in British politics." "This is an exciting time to be a Liberal Democrat. Gordon Brown's government is blundering from one disaster to another. But the Conservative's policy-lite PR agenda from Cameron and Davis has failed to catch the nation's imagination. The people are ready to hear what the Liberal Democrats have to offer." "Nick Clegg's election has put wind in our sails and under his leadership, we are moving forward in Haltemprice & Howden."
