Diana says YES to Fairer Votes
Sitting on a panel with Alan Johnson Labour MP at a Fair Votes campaign meeting at Hull University on Friday 8th of April, Diana said:
"Many people feel disenchanted with poltics right now. This is their chance to make an historic change. It could could be the end of a system we have been stuck with since the 18th century."
Alan Johnson said:
"First past the post was devised when there were only two parties to choose between but that hasn't been the case for a long time. Increasing numbers of people are losing confidence in the way we do our politics and we need something better to offer the electorate so they can re-engage with our democracy.
"The only other country which uses first past the post is Zimbabwe. Surely we can do better."
Commenting earlier on a poll carried out by postal survey of 18,000 people in Yorkshire, Diana said:
"Yorkshire is poised to vote YES in the referendum on May 5th. Poll results show that 65% are for a change, with just 9% against and don't knows at 26%. This is very encouraging for those of us wanting a fairer voting system in Yorkshire and the Humber."
