Andrew Stunell on the Campaign Trail

Andrew Stunell, Lib Dem MP for Hazel Grove put in a full two days work on Friday February 12th. Leaving after a morning meeting in his constituency near Manchester, he joined Denis Healy, the next Lib Dem MP for Hull North, to canvass on the campaign trail in the afternoon.

Addressing H & H members and their guests at the annual fund raiser, Andrew inspired everyone by declaring that the next General Election presents the Liberal Democrats with a golden opportunity to break the stranglehold the two old parties have on Westminster. Labour has greatly outstayed its welcome and the voters can't wait to get rid of Gordon Brown but they still don't trust the Tories.

With Nick Clegg the party has a young energetic leader who is ready to transform the political landscape. With fairness stamped on the four central policies everyone should be proud to be a Liberal Democrat in 2010. Ready to explain how we can make a fresh start with fairer taxes so no-one pays tax on the first £10,000; a fair start for all our school children giving extra help to those who fall behind; a fairer economy restoring the health of public finances, and fairer politics with a reform of parliament and our outdated voting system.

Everyone is waiting for the TV debate between the main party leaders, but with the economy being in a such a parlous state there is also a great deal of anticipation to see how Alistair Darling and George Osborne measure up to Vince Cable. They will need some kind of divine intervention to lay a glove on him!
