Jon and Mary support local traders against car parking charges

"I welcome Jon's support for our campaign against car parking charges in Anlaby and the other west Hull villages, said Lib Dem Mary Kingston. "No-one wants these charges, which would drive trade away from local shops."

Jon said, "The Tory run council is in no hurry to implement their new charges for parking, which is a tribute to the work of councillors like Fred Smith, Willerby Parish Council Vice-Chair and Mary. They put petitions in local shops and residents queued up to sign them. The campaign also caught the attention of the Hull Daily Mail and Look North. With 30,000 signatures showing the strength of local feeling against parking charges the East Riding Council would be well advised to listen to their concerns."

"Many people believe that the main businesses to benefit would be the supermarkets, where shoppers can park free for two or three hours. If we are to save jobs and support the local economy car parking charges must not be introduced," said Jon.
