Cllr Fred Smith shows Jon Neal the plans for Willerby

"Its about time the council started this work on Willerby's public toilets," said Vice-Chair of Willerby Parish Council Fred Smith. "It was five years ago when the East Riding Council agreed to my request for the work to be done. Perhaps now Willerby residents will be able to look forward to having decent public toilets in the village."

It was in 2005, when Fred, as a Lib Dem councillor on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, placed a successful bid for the refurbishment of Willerby's public toilets. Although it has taken five years for the Council to start the work, at last the site will soon be something all Willerby residents can rightfully take a pride in.

"Remove this eyesore" say Fred & Jon

Fred is now campaigning for the whole of the general area to have a new look. "Along with other west Hull villages, Willerby deserves to be spruced up," says Fred. " For example to have these recycling bins here looking so scruffy, practically on the road is just not good enough. Willerby residents deserve better. I want to see them either screened off or moved somewhere less prominent."

"I agree with Fred," says Jon Neal, who has just been adopted in readiness for the coming General Election, as the Liberal Democrat PPC for Haltemprice & Howden. "Willerby residents deserve a lot more respect from the Tory led East Riding Council, than they seem to be getting. Let us hope it doesn't take another five years for something to be done about this eyesore."
