'The Liberal Democrats have got it right on the issues'

Speaking at the Yorkshire Regional Conference, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate & Knaresborough, Phil Willis told delegates, "The Liberal Democrats have got it right on the issues. It was Nick who called on Speaker Martin to go, we got it right on opposing ID cards and the 42 days detention issue, as well as on Titan prisons, the Gurkhas and Guantanamo. Also Nick's radical leadership on tax & a 10% reduction of CO2 by 2010 has showed the way to a better future."

"MPs expenses have driven the popular agenda, which has killed MPs' spirit. Yet it is Vince Cable who has the top voice on the economy, while George Osborne is a joke in the City. It is the Guardian which writes that the Liberal Democrats are the progressive force in British politics and that we lead on Afghanistan. We have a lot to shout about & in the coming election there is everything to play for. The Tories do not have it in the bag. Let us surprise the country with what we can do on election day," said Phil to rapturous applause.
