'Our Parliament's democratic deficit must be ended'

"We have increased our numbers in Parliament in every one of the last four elections," said Lib Dem MP Andrew Stunell at the Yorkshire Region's recent conference, "and I have no doubt we will do it at the next one."

"We will make it happen again. And with more Liberal Democrat MPs we can restore fuller health to our national politics. Parliament's democratic deficit must end and only we can do it. I am greatly looking forward to the three party leaders debate. We have called it right on all the major issues from Iraq to Northern Rock so I am especially looking forward to the leadership debates. In Vince Cable we have the best Shadow Chancellor and I can't wait to see him go up against Darling and Osborne."

"We are the only major party to take the threat of Climate Change seriously. At the moment Climate Change for us is largely an inconvenience but for those in poor countries it is a matter of death and disease. We are ambitious and straight talking. Our tax policy lifts the poor out of tax altogether while the Tories' priority is to raise the inheritance tax threshold for the rich. Blair was wrong on all the major issues, Iraq, the banks and Climate Change and the Tories can only offer fake change."
