Vince Cable speaks at the Spring Conference in Harrogate
In his keynote speech at the Harrogate Spring Conference, the prophetic Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable began be saying,"Our crisis is too serious for jokes. the situation is dire and it will get worse. It is a moral crisis which reveals a deep corruption. When Brown and Blair made their pact with the Devil they turned a blind eye to huge salaries and tax havens."
Vince continued," What the country needs now from its politicians is honesty and clarity with a realistic message of hope. We consistently identified the weaknesses in the economy and we have the ideas to put it right."
He then made these four main proposals:
1. Take the banks saved by the taxpayer, into public ownership.
2. Crack down hard on tax avoidance and eradicate the tax havens.
3. Return the banks to their traditional operations with no gambling.
4. Sell the banks to the private sector when the crisis is over at a profit to
the taxpayer.
