Look North's Leanne Brown interviews Lib Dem Cllr MaryRose Hardy
Leanne Brown from Look North, visited Anlaby shopping centre on Saturday 31st of January to report on the campaign against introducing parking charges. She interviewed local businessmen John Shields and John Turnbull who told of their concerns for their employees' jobs if trade fell as a result of parking charges.
Leanne interviewed shoppers as they signed the petition against parking charges and talked to local Lib Dem councillor MaryRose Hardy and Lib Dem MEP prospective candidate Stewart Arnold about the strength of feeling in the village. Despite the cold weather shoppers were all too ready to pull off their gloves, sign the petition and say how they could only see bad consequences for local businesses and themselves. "I don't see why I should pay to park for a five minute visit to the Post Office," said one visibly annoyed shopper.
"Of course this policy won't just affect Anlaby," said Cllr Hardy, "all the other villages that have free parking like Cottingham and Hessle will suffer and they include Willerby, Hedon, Pocklington, Stanford Bridge as well three car parks in Goole."
