Katrin is deeply disappointed to lose the Old Hallgate School for Cottingham
Cottingham's Hallgate Old School Preservation Society (Hospa) starts the new year with lowered spirits. The former Hallgate Junior school, which they hoped would provide a much needed community centre, has been sold to a private education trust.
"The group is extremely disappointed and we all feel it is an opportunity missed," said Lib Dem Cllr Katrin McClure. " As a new community centre it would have been ideal for the Scouts and Guides whose hall had been demolished to make way for the new Hallgate School."
Cllr McClure added, "Although there appears to be lots of community facilities in the village the fact that they are always fully booked shows more are needed. This was a chance to expand facilities for the village and preserve an important and much loved public building. The East Riding Council has let Cottingham down"
