Diana Wallis MEP & Euro Vice-President to lead Lib Dem Euro Challenge in 2008
Haltemprice & Howden Liberal Democrats offer their delighted congratulations to their president Diana Wallis MEP who has been chosen to lead the Liberal Democrat campaign for the Yorkshire and the Humber Region in next year's European Elections.
Commenting Diana said," I am delighted that the Liberal Democrat members across Yorkshire and the Humber have given me such a ringing endorsement. I look forward to leading a strong field of candidates in this region to contest the next elections to the European Parliament."
"Liberal Democrat MEPs play a vital role in the European Parliament, promoting measures to tackle critical EU wide issues such as climate change and ensuring that the EU is held accountable to the public."
"I look forward to seeing an even stronger representation from Yorkshire and the Humber in the European Parliament after the election in 2009."
The candidates were selected by the Single Transferable Vote system by Liberal Democrat members. Currently Yorkshire and the Humber has 6 seats in the European Parliament.
The other successful candidates in descending order, are as follows: Stewart Arnold, Rebecca Taylor, James Monaghan, Jeanette Sunderland and Nader Fekri.
With nine very well qualified candidates offering to stand as a Liberal Democrat MEP, the competition was fierce. It should not escape anyone's notice that both contenders for the Lib Dem leadership were MEPs before they were elected to Westminster.
